His contributions have been recognized by a string of awards such as the Leverhulme Fellowship Award (1964) Hooker Award (1975), Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Prize (1976), ICAR Team Award (1979), Lal Bahadur Shastri Award (1989), Great Son of the Soil Award (1991), Aashirwad Award (1992) and Congress of Zoology Gold Medal (1995), Eminent Zoologist Award, Zoological Society of India (2006), the degree of D.Sc. (Honoris causa) by the CIFE, Mumbai, (2007) and the Millennium Plaque of Honour of the Indian Science Congress Association (2008).

He is also a Fellow of several prestigious Academies like the Indian National Science Academy, National Science Academy, India , National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India and many other professional societies. He has been the Past President of the Inland Fisheries Society of India, and the Indian Fisheries Association of India.

Presently, he is the President of the Pillay aquaculture Foundation (International) and, during his presidentship he organised the first ever Congress on AQUA-INVEST and EXPO in 2010 at Mumbai in collaboration with many governmental institutions and the Second Congress at Kolkata in 2013 on PRIVATE PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP IN AQUACULTURE AND CULTURE BASED FISHERIES and the Third Congress was organized at Mumbai in April 2016 on SOCIAL ENTREPRENUERSHIPS IN AQUACULTURE.

Dr. Sinha's research experience, his leadership qualities, his organizational acumen and, above all, his intimate knowledge of the problems of developing countries, have contributed very substantially to his impressive success in different initiatives for the advancement of aquaculture and its popularisation. In essence, Dr Sinha's contribution has been unparallel and has made an impact in the field of aquaculture that has influenced the lives of millions of men and women for their livelihood, gainful employment, food security and prosperity.
